Surroundings: Natural heritage

Crystal clear water, beaches, islands, vineyards, authentic fishing villages and the ruins of medieval towns surrounded by walls are only a few of many beauties of the Sibenik Riviera. Rogoznica region, a part of Šibenik Riviera, with its location in the center of Dalmatia, makes a great starting point for all excursions in the closer and wider area. Staying in Rogoznica, three pearls of nature – Kornati National Park, Krka National Park, and Vrana Lake Nature Park are at your fingertips.

Experience unforgettable boat trip to the Kornati National Park with an archipelago of about 150 islands, 89 of which are included in the national park. Due to their exceptionally beautiful landscape and interesting geomorphology, great indentedness of the coastline, and especially rich biocenosis of the sea ecosystem most of the Kornati waters were declared a national park in 1980. The islands are characterized by barren vegetation, lack of flowing water, crystal clear water, and a number of coves and reefs.

Krka National Park, the seventh national park in Croatia is named after the river Krka that it encloses. Fighting its way through a tight canyon for 72km, trying to find its way to the Adriatic Sea, River Krka leaves behind a dreamy array of cascades, magical waterfalls, and lakes. There is also Skradin, a small town on the shore of the river Krka, where the salty and sweet water mix. Skradin is a town of traditional gatherings of Dalmatian folk music groups (klape), proud of its 2000-year-old history as well as of it rich gastronomy offer. Distance: 50 km.

Because it is one of the rare natural habitats of waterbirds as well as because of its freshwater springs and biodiversity, the Vrana Lake and its surroundings have been declared a nature park in 1999. The lake is unique for its position and characteristics not only in Croatia but also in other parts of Europe. It is in fact a karst valley filled with brackish water and is below sea-level. The predominating characteristic of the park is its special Ornithological reserve, which received its title for its well preserved huge reed-patch, immense biodiversity, and extraordinary scientific and ecological value ever since 1983. The reserve has been included in the list of Important Bird Areas in Europe and is a potential Ramsar site. Distance: 75 km
